Exploring the Literary Utopia of Dubai's Mohammed Bin Rashid Library

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library in Dubai is breathtaking. This enormous structure is an homage to the city of Dubai's appreciation of science and culture. Being a travel photographer, I was ecstatic to visit this library and document its distinct features. In this blog post, we will look at the library's rich history, architectural design, and the services it provides to visitors.

If you are coming by your own car, there is a lot of free parking spots for you to park. If you are coming by public transport, take off at Al Jadaf Metro Station. You will then walk for five minutes to reach the MBR Library.

History

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, dedicated the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library in June 2022. In commemoration of his love of knowledge and culture, the library is named after him. The library is run by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), which is in charge of developing cultural awareness and the arts in the city-state.

The library's collection is extensive and broad, encompassing a wide range of disciplines and topics such as history, philosophy, literature, science, and art. The library's primary goal is to collect and preserve Arabic language and Islamic cultural publications, making it a valuable resource for both scholars and students.

Design & Architecture

The architecture of the library is breathtaking, with its clean lines and futuristic design. The structure is seven stories tall and 66,000 square meters in size. OMA, a Dutch architectural practice recognized for its distinctive and inventive designs, created the masterpiece. The outside of the building is a remarkable blend of concrete, steel and glass, creating a sense of openness and transparency. The interior is equally spectacular, with towering ceilings and expansive open spaces.

The design of the library is not only aesthetically beautiful, but also useful. With its utilization of natural light and ecological materials, the building is energy efficient. The central atrium of the library serves as a nexus for all activities within the building, including exhibitions, seminars, and events.
